East Stroudsburg University - New Student Housing Phase I & II

Wick Fisher White provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering services for a total of three new student housing buildings at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania. Phase I consisted of two buildings, Hawthorn and Hemlock Suites, while phase II included Sycamore Suites. The mixed-use occupancy buildings contain student housing and services on the upper floors and campus police services and a recreation center in the basements of the buildings. The new buildings totaled approximately 490,000 sf and offered housing approximately 1,500 students.

Wick Fisher White’s design accommodated the varied needs of the buildings by implementation of systems and components that allow the mission critical needs of a police station and the transient needs of a recreation center to operate seamlessly with the student residence areas. Design highlights included a geothermal heat pump system served by a well field at each building, dedicated outdoor air systems with energy recovery wheels, and modifications to the campus electrical infrastructure to accommodate a substantial increase in campus loads. Construction of the first phase was completed in 2012. Construction of the second phase was completed in August 2017, in time students to occupy the building for the Fall 2017 semester. Construction costs for the three buildings totaled approximately $72 million. Phase I, Hawthorn and Hemlock Suites, achieved LEED Silver Certification. The team is pursuing LEED Silver for Phase II as well.
